ITAD and data centres

ITAD companies and data centres process drives by the thousand. Throughput, proof per drive and, increasingly, the recovery of materials determine the choice of equipment.

What is asked

A data centre decommissioning can involve thousands of drives within a short time, often on or near site. ITAD companies work for customers who expect a certificate per drive, and many hold certifications such as R2v3 or e-Stewards that refer to NIST SP 800-88 for data sanitisation.

Throughput

The HD-3XTLE erases a drive in 3 seconds and starts automatically, up to 450 drives of 3.5″ per hour. For drives with high coercivity, the TS-4XTE delivers at least 3 T. IRONCLAD records every drive with a photo and pass/fail result.

Recovering materials

Drives that are erased can still be a source of raw materials. The DiskMantler Suite erases and demagnetises drives with the DeMAG and dismantles them into separate components, including the rare-earth magnets. That gives cleaner streams than shredding and fits the EU’s aim to recover more permanent magnets. Read more in our article on the DiskMantler Suite.
