DiskMantlers

A DiskMantler takes a hard drive apart instead of shredding it. The housing, circuit board, platters and magnets come out as separate components, so each can be recycled in its own stream. The DiskMantler does not erase data: combine it with a degausser, preferably the DeMAG.

About dismantling

What is the difference between a DiskMantler and the DiskMantler Suite?

A DiskMantler is a single dismantling machine. The DiskMantler Suite links a DeMAG and a vertical DiskMantler into one automated line with feeder and conveyors.

Why does the DeMAG demagnetise the drive’s magnet?

A strong neodymium magnet pulls steel parts together and contaminates the other material streams. Demagnetised, the magnet can be recovered separately.

Horizontal or vertical?

The principle is the same. The vertical version takes up less floor space and is the dismantling unit in the Suite; the horizontal version is a stand-alone machine.

How long does dismantling a drive take?

About 30 seconds for a standard 3.5″ drive; welded helium drives take about a minute.

Does a DiskMantler erase the data?

No. It is a mechanical dismantling machine. Erase the drives first with a degausser.
