The right machine depends on the media and on what you need to prove afterwards.
Hard drives and tapes store data magnetically. A degausser erases them in seconds; in NIST SP 800-88 terms, degaussing magnetic media is a purge method. A destroyer then makes the drive physically unusable, which is a destroy method and, for classified media, an NSA/CSS requirement after degaussing.
SSDs, USB sticks and phones store data in chips. Degaussing has no effect on them. Use the PD-5E with the SSD-1E insert, or a shredder where your standard specifies a particle size.
For recycling, a DiskMantler takes hard drives apart into separate components. It does not erase data, so combine it with a degausser such as the DeMAG.
Whatever the method, verification records every item with a photo and result, and gives you a certificate of destruction to show your customer or auditor.
