Shredding a hard drive mixes aluminium, steel, circuit board and magnets into one stream that is hard to recycle. The DiskMantler takes a different route: controlled shock, harmonics and vibration loosen the screws and fasteners, so the drive comes apart into its main components, such as the housing, circuit board, platters and magnets. Each can then go to its own recycling stream.
A standard 3.5″ drive takes about 30 seconds; welded helium drives take about a minute. The machine runs on compressed air: allow 5.7–7.1 l/s at 8.3 bar per DiskMantler. Plan the compressor and air supply before installation; we are happy to advise.
The DiskMantler does not erase data. Degauss drives first, preferably with the DeMAG, which also demagnetises the magnets so they do not attract the steel parts. The horizontal version is a stand-alone machine; for a vertical set-up, see the vertical DiskMantler.
