Garner DeMAG

Multi-pulse degausser with a peak field of 4.0 T. Besides erasing the data, it neutralises the drive’s rare-earth magnets, so they can be recovered after dismantling.

Description

A hard drive contains strong neodymium magnets. If you dismantle a drive without treating them, the magnets pull steel parts together and contaminate the other material streams. The DeMAG solves that in the same step as the data erasure: a series of pulses with alternating polarity and a decreasing field erases the platters and leaves the magnets demagnetised.

That makes the DeMAG the logical first step before a DiskMantler. In the DiskMantler Suite the two machines are linked: the DeMAG feeds demagnetised drives straight into the vertical DiskMantler.

The DeMAG processes standard 3.5″ drives, roughly 80 per hour according to Garner’s 2026 brochure. It is not on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List.
