Degaussing erases the data; physical destruction makes the drive visibly and permanently unusable. Many organisations want both, and the NSA/CSS requires both for classified hard drives. The DD packages put the two machines together: one of four Garner degaussers plus the PD-5E.
The DD-1XT5E packages join the TS-1XTE and the PD-5E. Both appear on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List (October 2026): the TS-1XT Series as a degausser and the PD-5 as a hard drive deformer. The other combinations use a degausser that is not on that list.
