Destroyers

A destroyer makes a hard drive physically unusable: it bends the platters and breaks the housing and circuit board. With an SSD insert it also destroys the memory chips of SSDs and flash media. For hard drives, a destroyer is the step after degaussing.

About physical destruction

Is a destroyer enough on its own?

For hard drives, degaussing first is recommended: Garner advises it, and for classified media the NSA/CSS requires a drive to be erased with a listed degausser before it is deformed. A bent drive without degaussing still has data on the platter surface.

Can the PD-5E destroy SSDs?

Yes, with the SSD-1E insert. Ninety spikes puncture the memory chips of SSDs, USB sticks, phones and SSHD controller boards.

What is the difference between a destroyer and a shredder?

A destroyer deforms or perforates the media in one press stroke. A shredder cuts it into particles of a fixed size, which some standards require for solid-state media.

Which destroyer suits your media?

A specialist will help you combine degaussing and physical destruction.
